Story
Four children on their home planet make a mysterious discovery that leads them to a strange and dangerous galaxy. Jude Law stars in "Skeleton Crew" plus more stars from a galaxy far, far away.. The holographic circus that entertains Neil’s little siblings is the same one that Chewbacca’s family watches in the infamous Star Wars holiday special (1978). Deadly Bear (2022). Although Skeleton Crew is aimed at kids to appeal to the next generation of Star Wars fans, it’s surprisingly appealing to older viewers as well.
Luckily, there’s a droid onboard to help guide them
In this Star Wars episode, four children discover a starship buried in the forest on Atina, a peaceful and prosperous planet hidden in a galaxy full of pirates, greed, and chaos. While dreaming of adventure—at least some of it—the kids accidentally activate a ship and end up lost on the far side of the galaxy. But since the kids have lived sheltered lives, they often get into trouble. While it’s clearly Star Wars, Skeleton Crew feels like an 80s kid’s adventure movie, think The Goonies, but set in space. For longtime fans, it’s filled with nostalgic touches, from the equipment and spaceships to the alien creatures, all reminiscent of the original trilogy.
These little details keep you hooked and wanting to see more
Hardcore fans will also enjoy the many Easter eggs scattered throughout the world that bring back fond memories of the franchise’s early days. I especially appreciated the newer versions of the various alien species we know from the previous films. It makes the galaxy feel more connected, showing that some alien races are a permanent presence rather than a one-off. There are also fun moments, like a brief glimpse of a boy who looks like a young Kylo Ren. Jude Law, the biggest star of the cast, doesn’t appear until the end of the second episode, so it’s hard to judge the overall quality of the acting early on.
The new cast, while less experienced, does a decent job
Two of the main kids stand out, reminding me of classic shows like The Goonies or Stand by Me. One of the four kids is a non-human alien, so it’s difficult to judge their acting, and the other wears a cybernetic visor that hides much of their facial expression, reminiscent of Geordie La Forge from Star Trek. The production quality is top-notch, with Disney’s budget clearly visible. The special effects are impeccable, leaving nothing to the critics. However, the episodes are quite short, and the long credits — over five minutes long — feel excessive.

With only eight episodes left in the season, I was concerned that the story might not progress much unless the pace picked up significantly. Despite these concerns, Skeleton Crew has been a pleasant surprise. It’s fun, nostalgic, and engaging for viewers of all ages. I’m excited to see where the story goes, and I’m glad it offers something for even adult fans of the Star Wars universe. "One Hundred Years of Solitude" is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month.
