The depiction of the era is also quite scrupulous
It’s not only a great, proven performance by Jolie, an actress who still hasn’t convinced me of her acting abilities. However, this film lacks all traits of narcissism bordering on narcissism. Jolie immerses herself in the fragile, generally fading character of Maria and creates a more than convincing portrait worthy of praise.
All in the right doses
The director’s approach and script are really pleasant surprises. Focusing on her last week before her death, the film takes a balanced approach to her memories through several flashbacks, her past and present relationships, her adoration of music and opera, her declining health, her feeble attempts to return, her warped perception of reality due to the use of multiple barbiturates, her nostalgia, her need for flattery and love. A wonderful two hours spent chatting with Maria…
